Equipment
Sony MDR-7506 Professional Closed-Back Headphones (any wired headphones will work, but these are great if you have the budget)
Before You Record
Choose a quiet place to talk - somewhere away from other people, pets, street-facing windows or anything that emits white noise (like a refrigerator or AC unit).
A room that is not echoey such as a smaller room with lots of soft surfaces (i.e. carpets or a bed) is ideal.
Position your mic slightly off-axis, to avoid distortion caused by plosives (check out the photos here and experiment).
Have a glass of water and/or a mug of tea handy.
Recording
Riverside.fm allows convenient recording of high quality audio and video for remote interviews.
Editing
Descript.com allows you to edit audio (and video) directly through AI-generated transcripts. You or your engineer can also download the edited audio into digital audio workstations like Pro Tools, for additional editing and mixing. Descript also makes it easy to create audiograms to promote your show.
Distribution
Captivate.fm is great for setting up your podcast RSS feed and distributing it to podcast apps so people can listen. You’ll need to setup individual accounts for Apple, Spotify, and some other podcast players.
